As most of you will agree, water polo is the most hardcore water sport out there, except for maybe surfing the big waves at JAWS. I love watching those tow-in guys drop in!

Anyways, water polo is the Xtreme Team Sport and unfortunately most Americans don’t even have a clue about water polo and that really needs to change!

Because you’re reading this, we’ll make an assumption… you also care about this game of polo. So here is a serious question for you; when was the last time you saw a water polo game on network television or ESPN? To my knowledge, it was the previous Summer Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Do you remember what time of night those few games were on? Thank God for DVR, otherwise I would have missed them!

Over in Europe the sport is legitimate and it’s lauded by millions… however in the USA very few people have any idea what were all pumped up about! Yeah, water polo is pretty hardcore in California and it’s starting to take shape in other US regions (mainly Florida, Texas and the N.E)… but water polo is really a way of life for many of us Californians and I’d love to see that as reality all over this water polo planet.

Part of our Hole Set Mission is to see water polo grow to EPIC PROPORTIONS… it’s just too awesome to keep it all quiet here on the “western front”!

Once we launch the Hole Set BLOG, the mission will be to brainstorm with those of you who also want to see water polo gain in popularity. This won’t be a forum to vent about some opposing teams’ nasty coach or to whine about that mean player who knocked your kid senseless. Instead this will be a legitimate place for all of us to discuss the many ways to build up the popularity of water polo.

Here is just one (of the hundreds) of ideas I have about getting the sport kick-started and better known in main-stream America. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED for KIDS. SI publishes a special version that is tuned for the youth market (my son gets this great magazine monthly). Every issue I read several articles about the “X games”; snowboarding, skate boarding, moto-cross and other extreme sports. They also write about the ordinary sports, but they're also writing about; lacrosse, field hockey, volleyball and other less popular team sports. However, I have yet to see one article about water polo! Someone needs to put together a real legitimate media campaign that provides compelling stories about water polo athletes, championship teams and the sport of water polo in general.

That’s my two cents worth... more to come soon and I invite all commentary, feedback and opinions.
